2012 Tippecanoe Fly Fishers Casting Clinic Saturday May 19th!

This is going to be a great event! All skill levels are welcome. If you have never held a fly rod to seasoned fly fisherman we have something for everyone. We will have lessons on the basics! The hole in one challenge is inspired by our guest speaker Kevin Morlock. He said a tailing carp gives you a presentation window the size of a tea cup! There’s a $50 bill in that cup for the first person who can do it but it will cost a dollar a try so bring your skills!

Fishing will start at 6:00am and will stop at 8:30am. The Casting Clinic will start at 9:00am.

    Jordan and the tarpon

Jordan is living the dream down in Florida and just got a nice tarpon. I heard he got it boat side and leadered it before it swam off. Congrats Jordan

    April Fools opener!

The opener was a pretty good time despite the early morning storms. Don was on fire today. He caught a ton of fish from his kayak. I think Ray also caught a good number of fish, but he always does. He’s the fish whisperer. I caught one rainbow and that was pretty much on accident. Thanks to everyone who made it out to the event. Check out the calendar for the upcoming events with TFF. Thursday the 12th is fly tying night, Saturday the 14th is a trip to Lake Michigan for carp, on the 19th is a wading safety video night with wading belt give away at MCL, and finally on the 28th there’s another carp trip on Lake Michigan for paid TFF members who want to brave that long hike..

Season Opener at Fairfield Sunday April 1st

The trout have been stocked in Fairfield Lakes today and TFF will have our season opener on Sunday April 1st. We will be out there all day with a tent promoting the club, just look for the banner. We will have the club canoe there for members to use so come on out.

The Gary Krebs Popper class on March 3rd 2012

We had a great time and had a wonderful turnout. This is what this club is all about!

TFF represents at the Boat, Sport, and Travel show

John, Gary, and I went down to the expo this weekend. It was an amazing turnout and we met some good people. If you’re in the Indy area make sure to get there. The show runs for 10 days and it’s well worth getting to.

Guest Speaker Captain Kevin Morlock At The Thursday February 16th Club Meeting

Join Tippecanoe Fly Fishers Thursday February 16th 6pm at MCL Cafeteria in West Lafayette Indiana for guest speaker Captain Kevin Morlock of Indigo Guide Service. Kevin has pioneered fly fishing carp on Beaver Island and was recently featured on the television show Fly Fishing The World with host Conrad Bowman. Kevin writes for several fly fishing magazines and has completed the Alaskan Iditarod dog sled race. I always enjoy talking to him at shows and I’m glad I finally get to fish with him this year. Come out, join the fun and find out whats going on.

Look for fly tying on Thursday March 1st and the Willow Slough Ice Off pike trip!!

    February Fly Tying

We had twelve people turn out for February’s fly tying night. Krebs taught a Woolie Bugger to some new members and John demonstrated Morlock’s Carp Breakfast. Here are a few pictures.

Look for a Krebs popper class in the near future.

Rick Staight ties some beautiful flies. I think this pattern is from a history of flies book he has been reading.

February Is Here and This Is What’s Happening This Month

Join us for fly tying Thursday February 2nd 6pm at Saint Andrews United Methodist Church. A member asked for a demonstration of the Morlock’s Carp Breakfast fly. You can see how that one is tied and watch for the picture tutorial on our forums. The board approved spending $200 a year on fly tying materials so members can tie flies to use at club outings. We would like suggestions for flies to teach so let us know what you would like to tie.
